Hollywood isn't an easy city to get into, and so Renee chose to remain in
Texas, and auditioned for roles in Houston, where she managed to secure roles
in films as Reality Bites (1994) and Empire Records (1995). Matthew McConaughey

considering actresses such as Bridget Fonda and Marisa Tomei when they appeared
on Zellweger's The Whole Wide World (1996). He had a chance to audition
Zellweger and was sure he'd discovered his Dorothy Boyd. Renee was able to
continue her huge success in small independent films. Her films received even
more praise from critics and felt confident enough that she was ready to make a
return to large-budget Hollywood films. She was a co-star with Meryl Streep in
the tearjerker One True Thing (1998). Also, she acted in Me, Myself &
Irene (2000), opposite Jim Carrey, and soon after began dating Carrey. as the lead
