Thora Birch

Thora Birch, born March 11, 1982 is an American actress. Her film debut was in Purple People Eater (1988) in which she was awarded a Young Artist Award for "Best Young Actress under Nine Years of Age". Birch became famous as a child actress by appearing in films such as All I Want for Christmas (1991), Patriot Games (1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (1994), Now and Then (1995) as well as Alaska (1996).Her first big role was in 1999, when she portrayed Jane Burnham in the highly popular film American Beauty, for which she earned an BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Birch then appeared as Enid in the critically acclaimed Ghost World (2001), earning a nomination for the Golden Globe for Best Actress. Birch received an Emmy Award for her performance in Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story in 2003. Birch has also been a part of Dungeons & Dragons (2000) (2001), The Hole (2004), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006) and Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009). Birch was also the Whisperer Mary/Gamma during season 10 of The Walking Dead (2019-202). Birch was born in Los Angeles, the eldest child of Jack Birch and Carol Connors. Birch is of German-Jewish, Scandinavian and French-Canadian ancestry. [6] Her name, Thora is derived form the name of Thora, the Norse god thunder and lightning ("Thor") (which would be her name if she were a boy. Kian Bolt Birch, her younger brother, is her mother. Both were adult film actors, and were both actors in Deep Throat. Due to their own experience in the entertainment field the parents were reluctant initially to encourage Thora. However, Thora's photo was seen by agents when a babysitter spotted her fake commercials. Birch's first big break came around the age of 4, after her babysitter brought her along to an audition for the Quaker Oats commercial.
