ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born July 2, 1989 , to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. Morgan and her siblings Jeni and Jeri were raised in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan was a multi-sport athlete throughout her childhood , but did not favor soccer until she was 14. Then she joined the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and finishing in third place in the bracket for under-19 players. Morgan continued to refine her soccer skills at Diamond Bar High School. Morgan was selected as an All-American Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). She also played for states and regional divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan furthered her soccer career at UC Berkeley, where she was the leader of the California Golden Bears team in scoring right from the start of their first season. She assisted in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament all four years and even made it to the second round twice. Morgan was one of the four finalists in the Honda Sports Award. This was the first time she was one of the Hermann Trophy finalists to be placed at the top of the list. Morgan finished her degree in 2010 with the third-highest amount of goals and points in Berkeley. Morgan was able manage soccer careers at the college and national levels during her time at Berkeley. Morgan suffered an ACL injury her first year with Berkeley. This prevented her from taking part in U.S. women's soccer under 20 until April 2008. In the following season Morgan scored her first goal for the international team in the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. Morgan was also a part-time player in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. She scored four goals, and earned the team gold medals. One of these was the win goal in the match against Italy which earned the U.S. a place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest member of the team and he was the captain of the team to victory over France. Morgan was the team's youngest player, and helped them win against Japan.
